Steven Spielberg’s 1975 shark saga Jaws was the first Hollywood summer blockbuster and remains one of the greatest films of all time.
When a number of shark attacks threaten to kill the tourist trade on the small seaside destination of Amity Island, Police Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) must enlist the help of crusty old sea dog Quint (Robert Shaw) and marine scientist Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) to eliminate the menace. Setting out into the deep ocean on Quint’s boat, they soon come to face to face with the beast and a battle of wits ensues – but who will be the victor?
Featuring an Oscar-winning score from John Williams, don’t miss the opportunity to see this classic thriller again – just make sure you’ve got a big enough boat!
Jaws was produced by the legendary Richard Zanuck who died last Friday aged 77. In Spielberg’s own words: “In 1974, Dick Zanuck and I sat in a boat off Martha’s Vineyard and watched the mechanical shark sink to the bottom of the sea…Dick turned to me and smiled. ‘Gee, I sure hope that’s not a sign.’ That moment forged a bond between us that lasted nearly 40 years.”
Jaws screens on Sunday 22 (12.00noon) and Wednesday 25 (13.30pm) July. Booking is now open.
