On Thursday 8 March 2012 (6 pm – 8 pm) The Kitschies are proud to announce an evening of dark entertainments at Blackwell’s Charing Cross as we host an evening-length exploration into the forgotten lore of The Gothic.
Originating in the 18th century as a cleverly conceived revival of the medieval romance, Gothic fiction’s modern thematic legacy includes horror, romance and fantasy, while the aesthetics of the movement have expanded even further afield.
Appropriately, the guests for the Gothic evening come from a wide variety of disciplines and traditions. We’re exceedingly pleased to have in attendance on the evening:
Christopher Fowler
Marcus Hearn
Jon Courtenay Grimwood
John Kaiine
Tanith Lee
Suzanne McLeod
James Pearson
Jonathan Rigby
Emma Vieceli
The evening begins with short talk from Marcus Hearn and Christopher Fowler, then opens up for everyone to chat, browse and ogle as they see fit. Plus, The Kraken Rum will be providing tasty samples of their trademark drink.
Facebook RSVPs are welcomed but not mandatory.
Fluff:
The Kitschies are the tentacular annual prize presented to the year’s most progressive, intelligent and entertaining genre literature.
Hailing from the murky world of Cryptozoology, there can’t be a more appropriate sponsor than THE KRAKEN BLACK SPICED RUM. Its ominous colour and striking Victorian flagon-style bottle are reminders of the legendary sea beast that lends the rum its name.
