Thought Bubble Sequential Arts Festival

The Thought Bubble Festival is the UK’s largest event of its kind – an annual celebration of sequential art in all its forms, including everything from superhero comics to independent and small-press artists and writers.

Thought Bubble formed in 2007 as a non-profit-making organisation dedicated to promoting comics, graphic novels, and animation as an important national and international cultural art-form. Now in its 6th year, the festival has been extended over seven days with a jam-packed programme of events at a variety of venues across the city. Our aim is to cater to both long-time comic book fans and those who have never picked up a graphic novel before! The sixth Thought Bubble will take place from the 11th – 18th November 2012 at venues around Leeds and Bradford, with a centre-piece two day convention on 17th – 18th November at Saviles and Royal Armouries Halls – Leeds’ largest conference venues.

Novacon is the UK’s longest-established regional science fiction convention, held every autumn since 1971. It’s built around a single-stream programme mixing both literary items and more informal events, with deliberate emphasis on social contact between SF fans and genre professionals.

Novacon follows a long tradition of SF conventions held in the UK since the late 1930s. Back in those days it was a proud and lonely thing to be an SF fan and the main source of their interest was the written word.

So at Novacon you won’t find people dressed up as a Dalek or Darth Vader but you will find:

• SF authors, many of whom have come up through the ranks of SF fandom.
• A dealers room where you can find a wide selection of new fiction, second hand books and collectable books, books about sf and even graphic novels.
• A bar filled with like minded people happy to chat for hours about anything under the sun even Science Fiction.
• Serious science talks from professionals who know what they are talking about.
• An Art Show featuring original work by both professional and amateur artists. Many of the works shown are available to buy.

Doctor Who Recon – Restored, Re-coloured, Re-animated

Join us at Riverside Studios cinema, Crisp Road, Hammersmith on Sunday 30 September 2012 from 12.30 to 4.00pm and enjoy a preview of selected episodes from these forthcoming Classic Doctor Who DVD releases – ON THE BIG SCREEN. Presented by the Doctor Who Appreciation Society with the co-operation of BBC Worldwide.

INFERNO
This story from 1970 has been carefully restored from the best available source material for a forthcoming DVD release.

THE AMBASSADORS OF DEATH
Another story from 1970, which has, after many years of trying, been restored to its original full colour for release on DVD in October.

THE REIGN OF TERROR
Episodes four and five from this 1964 story are missing from the BBC archive. However, new animated versions have been produced and matched to the original soundtracks to make the adventure complete again for a future DVD release.

You will also have the opportunity to meet some of those responsible for the new and restored versions. A range of Doctor Who merchandise will be available on the day from Cult TV and Film.

Continuum 2012 takes place from Friday 20 until Monday 23 July 2012 at University of Leicester Halls of Residence, Oadby, Leicester, UK. This will be a special event as it marks the twentieth year this RPG convention has been held at Leicester.

The date refers to the 2012 Mayan apocalypse prophecy that foretells the end of the world.The main theme of the convention will be Apocalypse, End of the World/Galaxy/Universe/Multiverse, Judgment Day, Ragnarök, Götterdämmerung, Qiyamah, End of Days, Armageddon, etc.

Continuum is a three day, residential games convention featuring, but not exclusive to, games and worlds created by Issaries Inc and Chaosium though other games systems and/or settings are more than welcome!
