With the recent changes to Facebook, it looks like it'll be easier to keep our Facebook friends up-to-date via the BFS Facebook page (previously the fan page) rather than the BFS group, so if you could Become a Fan via this link that would be smashing. If you aren't on Facebook, don't worry - we'll be keeping you up-to-date on the BFS website, here on the forums and in the pages of Prism. It's just about getting the word out on our activities as widely as possible...

I noticed that there's an RSS feed for everything on the BFS website - http://www.britishfantasysociety.co.uk/rss-feeds/ - it would be really good if the BFS could use that with RSS Graffiti or something similar to have the news and reviews show up on its Facebook page. At the moment the Facebook page is getting a bit overwhelmed by advertisers..!

Hi Stephen - I'll draw this to Del's attention as I've no idea about Facebook. Never used it, never want to use it. I know it's set up so that news (and reviews?) are "tweeted" to Twitter, or whatever it's called, but I don't know what happens re Facebook. Haven't a clue what RSS Graffiti is either, I'm afraid. Me? I just post the news on the site!

If your news turned up on Facebook, it would be read by a *lot* more people. Peter - we did have it set up before (using the Networked Blogs app), but I think because it went through my Facebook account it stopped when I stopped being one of the admins of the page.

All I remember, Stephen, was that the day following news and reviews appearing on the BFS website (I was posting all this, then) I'd receive an email with all that information. Of course, one had to sign up for that email.

Oh, yes - Peter Keighrey set that up through Feedburner, and then passed it on to me. I've just updated the feed details with the new RSS details and the emails should start up again now. People can subscribe to that here if they want to.(If anyone on the committee wants to take control of that feed just set up a feedburner account and I can transfer it to you.)

Thanks, Stephen. I don't understand all this stuff myself, but I've emailed Del about it. Hopefully, he'll understand and do whatever needs doing, if anything else still does need doing ... er, am I making any sense?

The Feedburner worked brilliantly. Thanks Stephen. Now I can be sure that I'll not miss any news.
I recommend that everyone subscribe via this service.

Just had the following message from Del re Facebook which I thought I'd pass on here: "As for the Facebook integration. I am looking into ways of doing this. I don't like RSS Graffiti as it restricts what you can and can't do. But there will be a solution at some point soon." Also, he says there's already an RSS feed on the site, so I'm a bit confused about what this Feedburner thingy is? But don't mind me, I'm a self-confessed technophobe ...

Would be good to have something up and running while the search goes on... Also, he says there's already an RSS feed on the site, so I'm a bit confused about what this Feedburner thingy is? But don't mind me, I'm a self-confessed technophobe ... Feedburner is just another way of using a website's RSS feed.

This thread had an odd consequence... We used to use Feedburner to post BFS headlines to Twitter, and so when I updated the RSS feed in Feedburner to get the emails going again, the Twittering started up again too. That's why all the BFS headlines have been appearing twice on Twitter. I've disabled it now.

Ah! Someone mentioned that a while ago, and I assumed it had been dealt with. I don't go near Twitter so I have no idea what the BFS Twitter page (or whatever it's called ) looks like. Thanks for sorting it, Stephen!
