Thinking about it, this competition is probably impossible! Even I have forgotten. I did trace it on the internet a few years ago, I recall, but I don't seem to be able to do so at the moment.  So if anyone knows what it is, I'd be grateful!

This is very difficult.
The first person (including winners above) who posts on this board the correct nature and geographical place of the photograph (taken by me in 1970) on the cover of ZENCORE! (Nemonymous Seven) will receive all nine editions of Nemonymous from 2001, including the forthcoming one in 2010 (Null Immortalis).

I now have re-confirmed exactly the answer to the question above. I had some doubt earlier. So please go ahead and enter the competition.
I know I was surprised when I found out exactly on the internet what it was (after publishing Zencore!).  It was taken by me in 1970 (when on honeymoon) and I don't think I had then really taken in what it was when I photographed it. Of course, I have an advantage over you in searching for it on the internet as I remember roughly where I was at the time.

I did take the photo for Zencore! on honeymoon in 1970.

BTW, Natt, relevant to what you say, I did put this on a blog recently:

I've narrowed it down to one county... This is becoming rather an obsession. But it's an obsession that is increasing enormously my knowledge of monumental statuary...

Though I'm at a loss as to how you can identify the county - from the clouds?

From the low-res JPEG I tentatively identified it as possibly from a war memorial (Tin hat? Holding something in his right arm - rifle of some sort?). Thinking laterally, and trying to forge a link to Nemonymous - maybe from a memorial to the unknown dead?

However, trawling the War Graves Website has drawn a blank....

I wouldn't trust 100% what I've said about it before on the internet. When I used it for Zencore I had forgotten what it was and where it was - but later, together with my wife, we pieced together both our memories and other clues and eventually we found the site of this 1970 slide. And in recent days, having forgotten again, I reconfirmwed it on the internet.  We did travel widely from our central base on honeymoon.

In fact, if you're looking at the post I think you're looking at, I was wrong at that time about the county in which we spent our honeymoon.
After all it was in 1970!!

But it was on that side of the country and slightly more north.

Ok, we spent our honeymoon in Clun. Although the statue was not there, it was on that holiday I took that slide.

Right. So, here are my thoughts.

He's clearly uniformed, and the tin hat was pushing me towards WWI or the Boer War. However, unlike most war memorials he appears to be a little older, made a little later in the century, and to be standing to attention, as if he's watcxhing something. So I think he's a Home Guard, and he's a coastal statue.

Although that wouldn't make much sense further North...

Those have to be his shoes, all other war memorials are moving, or bronze, or... those must be his shoes...

How odd to have found them while writing this. I feel like I'm doing a real-time review.
