First off, thanks for offering me some dedicated space.

Whilst I've been writing since 1988, my first short story was published in 1994. Since that date I've taken on many roles: author, publisher (Elastic Press, 2002-2008), editor (BFS New Horizons magazine, 2008-present), reviewer (Zine, The Fix, VideoVista), proofreader, typesetter, and some webdesign.

I've had over 70 short stories published in a variety of genres. I tend to think of myself as a slipstream author, whatever that means, precisely because it means whatever I want it to mean

Aside from magazine publications, these are my books:

"The Virtual Menagerie" - short story collection, Elastic Press, 2002 (short-listed for a BFS award)

"Moon Beaver" - novel, ENC Press, 2004.

"Beyond Each Blue Horizons" - short story collection, Crowswing Books, 2005 (short-listed for a BFS award)

"Residue" - short story collection - non genre - HalfCut Publications, 2006

"And God Created Zombies" - novella, NewCon Press, 2009


I consider myself a short story writer at heart, although have just written another couple of novellas which I'm trying to place at the moment.

Do you think that you will re-establish Elastic Press or are you going to concentrate on writing from now on? Or both?

I won't be re-establishing Elastic Press. It was a great six years and we went out on a real high (winning a total of four awards in the last year, including two BFS awards), but it served its purpose and I was always a writer before I was a publisher. It was time to quit whilst I was ahead and I'm glad I did.

Plus, since ending Elastic Press in November 2008, I've written three novellas and about 14 short stories; having not written anything for two years prior to that. Ultimately, both roles were competing for time, and I know what I'd rather be doing

At World Horror Con in Brighton on the Sunday I'll be moderating the following panel:

Awards are lovely things to win. Or even to be nominated for. But do they really make much difference to a writer’s career? And should you really solicit votes from your friends and colleagues just so you can "win"? Some lucky winners (and losers) share their thoughts.

I'm not yet aware who will be joining me, but other than the BFS awards I'm not completely sure of the breadth of genre awards out there and whether they are panel or member voted. Can anyone enlighten me so I have a head start and don't have to do the research myself

Well, the award panel seemed to run well at World Horror with several people saying congrats on how it went. Thanks to Jen for the above info which really helped.

Update on my stories: at World Horror Con my story "Red Or White" was published in The Bitten Word vampire anthology from NewCon Press, also I've recently had a story, "Pansy Blade Cassandra Moko", published online in the wonderful Zahir magazine. Fingers crossed my 'entertainment', "Ponthe Oldenguine", will be available at FantasyCon tomorrow! In any event, I'll be reading from the book at 10am on Saturday morning. I'm also on a panel at 7pm Sunday night on small press publishing.
