Here's an author spotlight page over at Dog Horn Publishing - http://www.doghornpublishing.com/news/author_spotlight_aliya_whiteley.html

They're going to be publishing a collection of my short stories at the end of this year/beginning of next, plus I'll be appearing in Polluto magazine 9 and three quarters with a story that fits the description of 'Witchfinders vs the Evil Red'...

Congrats on the collection, Aliya. As you're probably aware, DogHorn did my book last year and did a great job with it. Look forward to reading yours.

Thanks Andrew - the great job they did with 'Nitrospective' is one of the reasons why I'm very happy to be working with them.

I've got a new website/blog here:

http://aliyawhiteley.wordpress.com/

It's got all the usual blurb, but also information about the e-edition of Mean Mode Median (first published by bluechrome) that's coming up at the end of April. There's also a link to an interview and a story with Smokelong Quarterly that's fresh out today.

From today my esoteric weird literary fantasy Mean Mode Median (first published as a paperback by bluechrome) is available on Amazon for free. This is just for three days to mark the launch of a new collective publishing venture called Thirst eDitions. It's a really interesting idea that hopes to prove that it is possible to guarantee quality in a self-publishing venture.

The link to download Mean Mode Median for free is here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mean-Mode-Median-ebook/dp/B007USAWB2/ref=sr_1_2?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1335172874&sr=1-2

More details about Thirst eDitions can be found here: http://thirsteditions.com/

Other books in this initial promotion are Ian Hocking's coming of age comedy about ice cream vans, Proper Job: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Proper-Job-ebook/dp/B0063R0QQM/ref=sr_1_3?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1335173192&sr=1-3

And for fantasy readers I find it very difficult to believe that Tim Stretton's very entertaining Dragonchaser is not better known. Galley Racing that reminds me of Jack Vance's Showboat World, it's also free for a few days here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dragonchaser-The-Annals-Mondia-ebook/dp/B004C0566M/ref=sr_1_2?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1335173301&sr=1-2

Issue nine and three quarters of Polluto magazine goes out this weekend. All the stories revolve around the theme of witchfinders vs the evil red – hence lots of stories about communism, blood, violence and misogyny.

My story, The Causeway, imagines a future where consumerist ladies in the Bristol area are not as harmless as they seem.

I'm in the summer issue of Big Pulp with my fantasy romance about special talent and Mr Whippy vans, First Up, and I see they've put up my story on the website to read for free for a limited time, so have a click here if you fancy reading it:

I'm delighted to be included in the new DF Lewis anthology, The First Book of Classical Horror, with my story based on Mahler's Kindertotenlieder, Songs for Dead Children. What a great subject to write about and I'm really pleased with the story. Looking forward to seeing it in the anthology along with so many other writers I admire.

The First Book of Classical Horror is now available from Megazanthus Press, and there are some wonderful stories that capture the disturbing elements that lie at the heart of many of my favourite pieces of music. I particularly enjoyed Chamber Music by Rachel Kendall, which contained some amazing imagery, and The Ivory Teat by Stephen Bacon, who finds the creepiness that often gives me a shudder when I listen to Chopin’s Nocturnes on my scratchy old vinyl recording.

There are new stories of mine coming up in publications in the next few months: I’ll be in Jupiter (issue 37), Per Contra, and Kaleidotrope.

So my short story, Midnight Midnight, has been published in Jupiter SF issue 37: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jupiter-37-Kale-Magazine-ebook/dp/B008R2NS3E/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1343738149&sr=8-10

It's got a fabulous cover.

I've written about fleeing my upcoming nuptials and ending up in Salzburg for the new Lonely Planet anthology of true life travel tales, Better Than Fiction:

http://www.publishersweekly.com/978-1-74220-594-6

Other contributors include Alexander McCall Smith, Joyce Carol Oates, DBC Pierre, and Isabel Allende. Phew. I'm feeling a bit starstruck, there.

Also coming up is the LOLCat exhibition of poems interpreted by leading artists. My poem, 'Yes, We Can Save the Economy with this Humorous Caption' is being brought to life. Details here:

Interesting times.
