Been a while. Time for an update, I think.

I started up a blog about Rocket Science, the hard sf anthology I'm editing for Mutation Press. Don't forget submissions open on 1 August. You can find the blog here.

I'll be appearing in Anarchy Press's new anthology, Vivisepulture. I'll also be in The Exaggerrated Press's anthology, The Monster Book for Girls, edited by Terry Grimwood, and Eibonvale Press's new anthology, Where Are We Going?, edited by Allen Ashley.

I have a story in the next issue of Jupiter, #33, due in July. It is, as far as I'm aware, the world's first death metal hard sf short story. And I have another story in Alt Hist, this time in #3, due some time late this year. My story 'Disambiguation' - see above - can also be found on the Alt Hist website here.

And if you get hold of the latest copy of Interzone, in it you'll see my interview with David Wingrove and review of Son of Heaven, the first book of his relaunched Chung Kuo series.

Alt Hist #3 is now out, containing my story 'A Light in the Darkness'. The magazine also interviewed me for their website here. Lois Tilton reviews the magazine on the Locus website, and seems to like two-thirds of my story.

And here's someone else who likes my story in Alt Hist, the team at Pornokitsch.

Announcement time:

This April, Whippleshield Books will launch its first book, Adrift on the Sea of Rains by Ian Sales. This 20,000-word novella tells the story of an attempt to return home by a group of military astronauts stranded at a base on the Moon. Described by Adam Roberts, author of By Light Alone, as “written with an expert blend of technical precision, descriptive vividness and emotional penetration”, and by Kim Lakin-Smith, author of Cyber Circus, as “as poignant as it is impeccably researched”, Adrift on the Sea of Rains is the first in a thematic quartet. The remaining three installments will also be published by Whippleshield Books.

Whippleshield Books was founded by Ian Sales in order to focus on a type of science fiction which no one else seems to be publishing – ie, stories of high literary quality with extremely strong scientific and technological content. Whippleshield Books plans to publish some two to three titles a year, as signed limited hardbacks, trade paperbacks and ebooks. Submissions will open in May 2012, but bear in mind the acceptance criteria are extremely high.

Review copies of Adrift on the Sea of Rains as PDF, MOBI or EPUB available on request.

The Whippleshield Books website is now live, where you can purchase paperback and limited hardback editions of Adrift on the Sea of Rains: http://shop.whippleshieldbooks.com/

Whippleshield Books is also open to submissions - see the guidelines on the website.

And I'm selling off a few of my genre hardbacks on the site too.

Two copies of the signed limited edition of Adrift on the Sea of Rains to give away! All you have to do is answer three easy questions, and then be lucky enough to have your named picked from the thousands (yeah right) who'll enter.

See the Whippleshield Books blog for details.

Interzone 241 contains a review of Rocket Science by Ian Hunter of this parish. He says, "Rocket Science is a mighty fine collection and worth seeking out.”

You can purchase a copy for an eminently affordable price from http://www.mutationpress.com/
