BFS Awards 2011 - Shortlist Announced
« on: June 27, 2011, 01:44:17 pm »
Hi All

The shortlist for the British Fantasy Awards 2011 is now available, and the voting form is online.

VOTING LINK: https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dEM3VEhlYjBIWEp5aDVrdTNiTU04S2c6MQ&ifq

The link is being emailed to all BFS Members shortly - if you think we might not have your current email address, then please email secretary@britishfantasysociety.org to let us know your correct details. All current members of the BFS are elegible to vote, as can attendees of both last years and this years FantasyCon. Your membership number can be found on the bottom of your mailing label for the BFS JOURNAL - copies of the latest edition should be arriving this week.

As usual, the longlist voting was strong, and the top five candidates in each category have been taken forward to the shortlist.

Congratulations and good luck to everyone who has made the shortlist - no mean feat considering the number of options on the longlist!

If you are one of those listed and would like to let the membership know where your work can be bought or otherwise obtained from for consideration, then please post details here.

Congratulations to all the nominees! Sorry to see Chomu didn't make it through to this round in the small press category, but I guess they only really kicked into gear in 2011.

I thought I had voted for Peter Tennant's Black Static Case Notes in the non-fiction category, so if nothing else picked up any votes shouldn't that be the fifth nominee? Or did I forget?

Absolutely thrilled to make the line up in both Best Novel (Demon Dance) and Best Short Fiction (Fool's Gold). I'll repost 'Fool's Gold' on my website.

Copies of 'Demon Dance' can be purchased from www.murkydepths.com - and although this is book 3 - you don't have to have read the first two to appreciate the story - think 'Queen of the Damned' meets 'Quantum Leap' with a dash of 'Hellraiser'.

Good point Stephen,  I've had a double check and we do indeed have 5th shortlisters for both the NON-FICTION and GRAPHIC NOVEL categories - unfortunately Tennant's piece lost out to another which had more mentions in the OTHER section ...

I'll update the main list now with the missed entrants, and Del will update the voting form as soon as possible as well.

Thanks to everyone who helped Murky Depths into the shortlist again.

If anyone hasn't yet seen a copy of Murky Depths but would like to make a comparison with the other shortlisted magazines I'm prepared to offer a free PDF download of Issue #12 (the second published Murky Depths in 2010). It won't go anywhere near showing the high production values but it will give you an idea of content.

Leave a request here: Contact or use the Contact link at the Murky Depths website.

As all copies of Back From The Dead have sold out - I can send a free PDF version to anyone who would like to read it. Email oldwiggie@gmail.com and put BFTD in the subject bar.

Cheers, and thanks!

What's the deadline for casting our votes?

I'm aiming to get through as many of the nominated works as I can...  :)

Thanks kindly for everyone who voted for Shadows & Tall Trees in the magazine/periodical category. I do appreciate it. The first issue is sold out, but I'll send along the PDF to any voting members who would like to review it. You can drop me a line at undertowbooks (at) gmail (dot) com.

Good luck to all the finalists!

Thanks, David.

It might also be worth correcting the comics category here and on the website to give it its proper title, Best Comic/Graphic Novel - it's a small difference but there's already been a bit of online comment about Clint's nomination, with people thinking we didn't realise it wasn't a graphic novel (e.g. here).

That sounds alarmingly like a threat, Andrew! Whatever next: are we all to wake up to fish-heads in our beds...?!  ;)

Well, got around to reading this... and it really is one of the most bizarre and entertaining books I've read; and the title is an incredible play on words - made me smile when I discovered it.

The novella category has become even tougher now!  :'(
