Speaking as an outsider that's a tremendous speech from the chair.

Graham,
As a founding member of BFS who rejoined after too long an absence at Fantasycon 2011, I was concerned to see the state of the society at the AGM.  I just wanted to add my appreciation for your being prepared to step up and take action, along with others who want to see a strong, respected BFS continue.  Looking at the pages of discussion on the awards, I know you have taken some stick.  Thanks for putting your head above the parapet.
Cheers

I'm a former Chair who became such at a time of crisis for the BFS. That was due to falling numbers, resulting in three-day Fantasycons becoming unviable, no-one wanting to become Chair at that year's AGM (2000) with the possibility of the BFS being wound up as a result.  But as I said to Graham yesterday evening, that was nothing compared to this current crisis. So congratulations to Graham for so ably steering the BFS in the last ten weeks and my best wishes to Lee and his new committee from here on in.

"A group of over 30 “significant names” (by which I mean members of many years standing, authors and publishers who have supported this Society through thick and thin) got together and, abiding by the constitution, petitioned the President with their concerns and desire for change."

Out of curiosity, will members of the BFS ever see this (both the content & the signatories)?

I say this with no particular bone to pick. But this petition has now been referenced several times and feels like it short be part of the public/historic/organisational record.
