Hallo! Been meaning to join the BFS boards for ages, and finally here I am! Went to FantasyCon in 2010, but couldn't go last year as it clashed with an event I run, so was a bit disappointed about that.
I'm a technologist, journalist and now an early-stage author hoping to make more of a dent in that particular ambition this year. In 2010 I funded the printing of my first self-published novelette,
Argleton, via Kickstarter (thanks to having an American spouse!). I'm also an avid bookbinder, so I actually hand-bound all the hardback copies for my Kickstarter supporters. It took me a horrendous amount of time to get the project completed - far longer than I had anticipated - but I learnt a lot of incredibly valuable lessons along the way.
I'm now just polishing off the audiobook version and have put the ebook up on the Kindle store to see how that goes. Reviews are coming in, which is nice, but sales are still... let's just say that they're still no bigger than an acorn.
Meantime, I'm working on my next novelette which I will also put through Kickstarter for the physical side of things. Although this time, I will not be hand-embroidering a complicated silk cover for the top-level hardbacks! Once burnt, twice shy!
My goals for this year are to finish and self-publish at least two novelettes, which might not sound much bit actually the self-publishing side of things does take up an awful lot of time.
Anyway, yes, *waves*. Hello!
