Despite fierce competition, I've managed to get on a series of "Writing Labs" being run by Scottish Book Trust and CBBC to find new writers for children's television. We've met twice so far and the first time included a brainstorming session where the ten of us came up with some programme ideas which were then pitched to some school kids who shouted out things like "Rubbish!", "Bor-ing!", etc. Now we've all come up with ten ideas each which have been whittled down to two for further development. Mine are a humourous documentary series about extreme sports and something inspired by Sherlock Holmes. Apart from the hard work, it's an interesting look at the mindset of the BBC, particularly around issues involving religion, and the supernatural.
