Very sad to hear this. That's the first time I've shed some tears when posting news to the website.
But what a writer - and what a tremendous legacy he's left us. RIP to one of the world's greatest ever writers.

A sad day. FFS. That's in very bad taste.

It's certainly a pity to see his sad death mentioned alongside any political propoganda imo.
There are a couple of links on the news piece I put on the main site - to nice obituaries at io9 and on the BBC site. I think we're going to see an outpouring of genuine obits over the next few days/weeks. He had such an impact on so many people in this genre - writers and fans alike.

When I first started reading science fiction, fantasy and horror his was one of the great names then. And still is. I'll always remember the impact his stories had on me in my teens - and onwards, alongside those of Asimov, Lovecraft, and Arthur C. Clarke. We've been lucky to have had him with us so long.

To write. To be truly read. That must be glorious.

First Ray Bradbury encounter: Twilight Zone episode: I Sing The Body Electric.
Says more about the nature of grief than any psychologist.
You're gone Mr Bradbury, but your body (of work) goes on forever.

The novel's an anti-television fable and isn't about censorship. Bootboys famously aren't well-read and can hardly be expected to realize this, hence the mistaken interpretation on the right-wing site. Hope this clears up any confusion.

I posted the first link I came to. I haven't read the book. I never read the article, except briefly. My main aim was to alert people to the death of one of the great writers of modern times, not to provoke a hysterical response complete with expletives from certain members of this forum.

There will always be idiots. I've changed the link. I hope nobody has any angst about wikipedia articles?

Thanks, Greenpen - I think that was the most sensible thing to do in the circumstances. I don't think we've ever censored any posts here on the forum to my knowledge, but I was seriously considering doing so here - even though I'm not the webmaster/forum admin. That wouldn't have been me doing it on behalf of the BFS - just me doing it on behalf of Ray Bradbury.
Now, please, folks - we've just lost one of the greatest genre writers ever. I think we all need to take a deep breath and be respectful here. Let's see some posts about what Bradbury's writing means to you and so on, can we? He deserves to be remembered that way.

Bradbury will always have a place in my heart. From discovering Something Wicked This Way Comes at an early age, to sneaking downstairs at night to watch The Martian Chronicles. To more recent times where The Halloween Tree has now become part of me and my son's Halloween tradition. This was the first proper book that we read together. A beautiful book that still has the power to move me even after all these readings.
