Short story writing workshop with Allen AshleyComments Off Although his short story writing workshop on 19 May 2012 is now fully booked, award-winning writer, editor and competition judge, Allen Ashley, will be holding another similar workshop on Saturday 16 June 2012 from 2pm to 5pm at Trinity-at-Bowes, Palmerston Road, London N22 8RA. This is your chance to improve your short story writing with guaranteed personal feedback from a specialist in the field. The afternoon will consist of a practical workshop for all short story writers, whether beginners or published writers. Topics covered will include: getting started; generating ideas; beginnings; middles; endings; useful writing exercises; practical tips; avoiding pitfalls; and preparing your work for submission. Day tickets now on sale for Alt.FictionComments Off Day tickets have now gone on sale for Alt.Fiction, the festival of SF, fantasy and horror, which takes place on 14 & 15 April 2012 at the Phoenix in Leicester. The festival, run by Writing East Midlands, provides an opportunity for readers and writers to hear from their favourite authors, find out more about the world of publishing and learn more about the writing process, while networking with agents, publishers and other writers. There will be author readings, panel discussions, writing workshops, and much more. Writers’ workshop near Hay-on-Wye in MayComments Off BFS members Peter Coleborn and Jan Edwards will be running a writers’ workshop from 18 – 20 May 2012 at Westview Guesthouse, near Hay-on-Wye, the town that is built on books. The course runs for the entire weekend, and is all-inclusive with accommodation, meals and tuition included in the price. Participants are invited to pre-submit up to 2,000 words of fiction (a short story or the start of a novel, but no poetry), for one-to-one feedback on Friday evening. Graphic novel workshop with Neil RobertsComments Off Alt.Fiction and Nottingham City Library present a Graphic Novel Workshop with artist Neil Roberts If you’re interested in graphic novels, this afternoon event will give you the chance to find out how comic books come to life, get tips on how to draw and storyboard your ideas, and have a go at working on your own storyboard! The session will be run by Neil Roberts, an acclaimed artist who has worked on comics including Judge Dredd, Sinister Dexter and The Sarah Jane Adventures plus a host of computer games and book covers.
